From January 23-30, the USF School of Music and College of Visual and Performing Arts will be sponsoring a symposium devoted to the music of contemporary Korean women composers. The main events of the symposium will be three concerts that will take place on January 23rd at 8:00 p.m., January 24th at 8:00 p.m., and January 30th at 8:00 p.m. Virtually all of the music being performed will be Western Hemisphere premieres of music composed during the last fifteen years, with eleven of the sixteen compositions being performed belonging to the repertory of twenty-first century music. Eleven Korean women composers, nine of whom have been born within the past fifty years, will be represented on the program. Two of these composers, Lee Gui Sook (b. 1964) and Kim Heejeong (b. 1968), will be in residence for the duration of the symposium.
